The report reveals the stand of everyday consumers on sustainable living. Are they considering ICT as a tool in addressing the need for environmentally conscious living? We will be able to get a deeper understanding of it from Ericsson’s latest ConsumerLab report: ‘Consumers, sustainability and ICT’.

The company has done the study with 12,000 internet users from across the world and reveals how the consumers deal with ICT towards sustainability.

The study reveals that the concern about air and water pollution has increased from one in five consumers to one in two in the last decade alone. At the same time, consideration for climate change and global warming has increased from 13 percent of consumers to 50 percent.

The study indicates, 70 percent of consumers think that citizens are responsible for environmental protection while 8 in 10 consumers take governments as being responsible. 50 percent of consumers think that companies and brands also should take their share of responsibility. 46 percent of those surveyed think that technology is inevitable to deal with future environmental challenges while 36 percent of consumers expect their devices to give hint and guidance on living more environmentally consciously.

The countries that participated in the study on the role of ICT on sustainable lifestyle are the US, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Spain, Russia, South Africa, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, China, and Australia with 1,000 respondents from each country.
